Handbuilding a Table Lamp Workshop

Make your own ceramic table lamp out of stoneware clay

4×2 h = 4 h handbuilding + 2 h glazing + 2 h assembling your lamp

In a small group of 4–6 we can experiment with different shapes and techniques, from pinching, coiling to slab building. Free forms can be tried out here. Open to anyone, regardless of previous knowledge or skills, even though a little bit of clay experience can definitely be useful here. 

In the first two sessions (Tuesday + Wednesday evening) you can design your lamp and handbuild it. After drying for several days and being fired once they can be final glazed in various colours and/or painted with wax pencils in the 3. session. The 4. session is all about assembling your lamp and finally taking it home.

All materials, tools, firings + a lamp base and bulb are included.

Workshops are held in German and/or English, depending on the group.

STEPS

The pieces need to dry for 7–10 days, before they can go into the kiln to be fired for the first time. Then you can glaze your objects, followed by a glaze firing at 1240°C, a slow cool down, until you can finally hold them in your hands.
