Sunday Handbuilding Workshop with Jessica Coates
Sunday Handbuilding Workshop with Jessica Coates
Handbuilding Workshop with Artist Jessica Coates
DETAILS
Sunday from 11–14.00
In this Workshop we will experiment with pinching, coil building and creating shapes and vessels with beautiful details. Free forms can be tried out or objects can be realized with Jessica’s expertise. Open to anyone, regardless of previous knowledge or skills, even though a little clay experience could be useful.
Clay, one of the most basic and versatile materials enables a practice that embraces chance and unpredictability. Jessica's works often result in organic shapes with an irregular silhouette. Although it is often stressed that ceramics need to be touched, a matter of her particular interest consists of what happens when the eye translates shape and silhouette of an object into something tangible and describable. Something that can be filled with meaning.
Jessica Coates is a ceramic artist based in Darmstadt. She has over ten years experience in sculpting and working with clay. Her works are exhibited internationally and sold in selected concept stores around the world. Jessica studied philosophy and literature in Frankfurt and art at the HfG in Offenbach.
